What is counselling?
We all experience the ups and downs of life. Often, we are able to cope with our difficulties. But there are times when life events, whether expected or unexpected, can overwhelm us. We may end up feeling vulnerable, uncertain, anxious, low, and lacking in vitality. We might lose hope about the value of life itself. This is where counselling can really help.
Counselling provides a safe and confidential space in which to talk about difficulties and challenges of life. It can help you to explore your thoughts and emotions without fear or judgement. The therapist is there to listen to you, work at your pace, and facilitate your journey towards healing and growth.
What are the benefits of therapy?
Therapy brings many benefits, including:
- Emotional release: Simply being allowed an opportunity to talk in a safe environment, without being judged, being accepted for who we are, can help us to release the heavy emotional burden that we carry. This emotional release can be healing and empowering.
- Understanding your inner world: Expressing feelings brings clarity to complex emotions.
- Feel validated: Knowing that someone is truly listening and being by our side can be profoundly healing.
- Clarity during life transitions: We experience many changes throughout our life, such as change in career, loss of a relationship or a loved one, starting a new project, to name a few. Therapy can help provide clarity to these changes and how we might navigate them.
- Reconnecting with your values and purpose: Through a lifetime of fulfilling other people’s expectations of how we should feel, act and behave, we can lose sight of who we are or want to be, and what our life’s purpose is. Therapy helps to reconnect with our core values and purpose.
